Lagna (ascendant)

The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at birth. It sets the twelve houses and describes body, temperament and life direction. An accurate birth time matters most for the Lagna.

Rashi and Nakshatra

The Moon’s sign (rashi) and lunar mansion (one of 27 nakshatras) describe the mind and seed the dasha sequence. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24° behind the Western tropical one.
